VPS Linux Antispam/Antivirus: 1. Most effective way to block spam messages is to use DNSBL in plesk Control panel, you can add "sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org" or "bl.spamcop.com" or both: "sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org;bl.spamcop.com"Â Â
If user IP, given by his ISP, is blacklisted in these lists, and you get a complaint from your user that he can't send emails because of this: Enable message submission port in Plesk CP
Ask user to change Outgoing SMTP port to 587
2. Please check that you have not enabled any catch-all address - this catch-all address will get lots of spam messages and it is usually not useful. Setting should be "Reject"
3. To enable Spamassassin - login to Plesk Control panel -> Server -> Spamassassin
After that you need to enable Spamassassin for necessary email accounts. You can use "group operation" option to do this in Plesk for few accounts at once ![]()
3. If you are getting spam from your own domain sent from somewhere else (somebody spoofed this address). We suggest to: create strict SPF record for your domain: v=spf1 a mx -all
change settings in Plesk CP -> Mail to block all messages that have wrong SPF.
For more details about SPF please visit: http://www.openspf.org/Â Â - SPF record tells from which places emails from @yourdomain.com can be originated. Â 1. All your users need to use "mail.yourdomain.com" (replace "yourdomain.com" with your actual domain) as their SMTP server in outlook. They should not use their ISP provider 2. If you have subscribed to some other services for your domain, for instance sending newsletters from @yourdomain from third party server, please contact support staff to help you create correct SPF record.
VPS Windows Antispam/Antivirus: Most effective way to block spam messages is to use DNSBL in plesk Control panel, you can add "sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org" or "bl.spamcop.com" or both: "sbl-xbl.spamhaus.org;bl.spamcop.com".Â
To enable Dr.Web antivirus, click on Server (left menu) -> Components -> Antivirus -> Select Drweb. Then click on Server -> Mail -> Antivirus -> Select to scan all incoming emailsÂ
Â
To enable Spamassassin, click on Server -> Mail -> Spam Filtering and use settings as shown here.
Please note that "Do not filter if mail size exceeds specified size" is very important, you should choose value of about 40-50KB, spam messages normally have very small size. Please check that you have not enabled any catch-all address (Domains -> your domain -> Mail -> Preferences) - this catch-all address will get lots of spam messages and it is usually not useful. |
